WATER CANADA: Reimagining Energy By Charlie Evans

Located at Bathurst and Dundas in Toronto, Noventa’s Toronto Western Hospital WET project is an impressive undertaking.
‘‘It’s providing about 90 per cent of Toronto Western Hospital’s thermal energy on an annual basis by tying into the sewer,’’ says Cam Quinn, Vice President of Project Delivery at Noventa. The system connects to a trunk sewer running beneath the hospital, using a wet well to pump wastewater into an energy transfer building. This process allows the hospital to use wastewater as a heat sink or source to generate hot or chilled water for its HVAC systems.
