Traditionally, energy storage has been synonymous with lithium-ion batteries, but their challenges have almost outweighed their benefits. L-ion battery storage tends to be large, expensive, environmentally toxic to dispose of, has diminishing capacity over time (short 5-9-year life span), and requires thermal-electrical conversion, creating inefficiencies in energy use.

Kelvin’s Thermal Energy Matrix Storage (TEMS) presents a better alternative – especially for district heating and industrial operations. By storing off-peak power or renewable energy as high-grade heat that can be discharged to make steam or hot water, Kelvin TEMS provides a valuable hedging strategy against the volatility of fossil fuel costs and an environmentally friendlier alternative.
