What is Thermal Energy Storage?

Thermal Energy Storage (TES) typically refers to the storage of hot water, chilled water or ice that can be used to reduce peak demand for heating or cooling. Much like electrical battery storage, properly deployed TES can help reduce or smooth energy costs and provide system stability and improved reliability. Storage significantly improves the business case for intermittent renewable energy projects by better matching generation and demand.  In so doing, the capital cost per kilowatt-hour consumed is reduced.  By incorporating thermal storage in our engineering designs, we are REIMAGINING ENERGYTM services to be continuously replenishing, carbon-free and available when we need it.
